Description in English: Shrek is an ogre who lives in a swampy home. One day Shrek's parents tell him to leave the swamp to go see the world and do some damage. Soon after Shrek leaves he meets a Witch who gives him a fortune to go wed a princess. After receiving his fortune, Shrek sets off on a journey to find the princess. Along the way he meets a pheasant carrying peasants, fights a whopper of a dragon, has bad dreams about happy little children, meets a jabbering donkey, fights a fearless knight, and gets lost in a hall of mirrors filled with ugly Shreks. Shrek is not phased by the fact that his ugliness overwhelms everyone he meets. In fact, he loves being so repulsive! When Shrek finally meets his stunningly ugly princess they instantly fall in love, get married, and live horribly ever after. 

Descripción en español: Shrek es un ogro que vive con sus padres. Un día, éstos le dicen a Shrek que se vaya a ver mundo y hacer daño por ahí. Poco después de partir, Shrek se encuentra con una bruja que le lee el futuro: se casará con una princesa. Encantado con las perspectivas, Shrek sale en busca de la princesa. Por el camino lucha contra un enorme dragón, contra un valiente caballero, tiene pesadillas sobre niñitos felices, conoce a un burro que no para de hablar, y se pierde en un salón de espejos repleto de horripilantes Shreks. A Shrek no parece importarle demasiado el hecho de que su fealdad asuste a todo el que se encuentra. De hecho, ¡le encanta ser así de repugnante! Cuando finalmente Shrek conoce a su impresionantemente fea princesa, es amor a primera vista, se casan y viven horribles para siempre.

11.12.12 Story Time with 5th grade / 5º curso

On Tuesday, 11th of December, at the school library, the 5th grade kids read and enjoyed four stories: The Gruffalo, Beware of the Frog, Caps for Sale and The Night Pirates.  This was the first reading in this class so it was mainly about gauging their level of understanding. We all enjoyed the four stories, I think. The Gruffalo is a classic that is enjoyable for all ages. Beware of the Frog plays with humour and surprise very effectively, and it definitely caught everyone's attention. Caps for Sale also plays with humour and repetition in structure and in sounds, and is great fun to listen to. The Night Pirates is an adventure full of nice sounds, rhymes and a very silly pirate curse. Our favourite? Without a doubt, Beware of the Frog!  

El martes, 11 de diciembre, en la biblioteca escolar, los chicos y chicas de quinto leyeron y disfrutaron de cuatro cuentos: El Grúfalo, Cuidado con la rana, Se venden gorras y La noche de los piratas en sus versiones en inglés. Esta era la primera vez que leía a esta clase así que se trataba más bien de medir su nivel de comprensión. Creo que todos disfrutamos de los cuatro cuentos. El Grúfalo es un clásico del que disfrutan todas las edades. Cuidado con la rana juega con el humor y la sorpresa de forma muy eficaz y desde luego que mantuvo la atención de todos. Se venden gorras también juega con el humor y la repetición, tanto en estructura como en sonoridad, y es muy divertido de escuchar. La noche de los piratas es una aventura repleta de sonidos, rimas y una  "maldición pirata" de lo más tonta. ¿El favorito de todos? Sin duda, ¡Cuidado con la rana!

Description in English: Mrs. Collywobbles lives on the outskirts of a big dark scary wood in a little house, protected only by her little pet frog. Her frog heroically manages to deal with several bizarre-looking. ill-intentioned creatures that step out from the wood, wanting to steal from her (Greedy Goblin), stink her out of her house (Smelly Troll) or simply eat her up (Giant Hungry Ogre). Each of them arrives with a delightfully repeatable and confident warning chant, but the frog makes well sure that none of them get further than just past the gate. Descripción en español: La señora Desazón Zozobra vive al lado de un bosque negro como la boca de un lobo, protegida tan solo por su pequeña ranita doméstica. Su rana logra salvarla heroicamente de las garras de varias criaturas de aspecto extraño y de intenciones viles que van saliendo del bosque, queriendo robarle (un duende avaricioso), apestarla hasta echarla de su casa (un trol apestoso) o simplemente zampársela (un ogro gigante y hambriento). Cada uno de ellos llega con un canto confiado y estupendamente repetible, pero la rana se asegura de que ninguno llegue más allá de la verja.
